Record Store Day 2019 preview – Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O: Does The Cosmic Shepherd Dream Of Electric Tapirs?

Psychedelic, trippy space rock headed up by a Japanese guitarist named Kawabata Makoto . Combine this with one of the best album titles since Amorphous Androgynous’ A monstrous Psychedelic Bubble Exploding in your mind, volume 1 and a record store day 2019 exclusive on mustard coloured double vinyl ……

Ladies and gents I give you: Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O with their 2004 offering “Does The Cosmic Shepherd Dream Of Electric Tapirs”, a title which is inspired by the Philip K. Dick novel, “Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep”

If, every now and then you like to weave your mind through psychedelic nonsense via squashed grooved polymer, letting it dance freely to your life’s soundtrack via speakers pushed through vacuum tubes (like myself), then “Does The Cosmic Shepherd Dream Of Electric Tapirs” will do the job for you, although until about 10 minutes ago I had no idea what a Tapir was.  However now my brain is fully up to speed on the herbivorous mammal, native to South America, Central America and South East Asia that is the Tapir, I can rest easy knowing that other Cosmic Shepherds will be dreaming of them too.

The album was recorded at Acid Mothers Temple from May 2002 up to January 2003, released in 2004 and contains stand out tracks such as “Hello Good Child” which is perhaps a nod to “Do Androids Dream ……….” setting in San Fransisco, albeit the hippy 1969 rather than the post apocalyptic version in the novel and the slightly more rocking “Dark Star Blues”

If you are lucky enough to pick up a copy on Record Store Day 2019, then drop the needle, lay on the floor, close your eyes and lose your mind the brilliance that is Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O

In the modern days of trains, planes, Ubers and motorways and journeys you feel you have no choice but to take, let Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O, join you on these journey’s and take you on a trip you will never forget.

Peace & Love As Per x
